Here are the notes from the 11/12 Zoom call addressing this season's challenges:
1. The inability to use the high school as a practice location: Since the school is hybrid, facilities will not allow us to use the wrestling room. In response to this we have have been able to secure a short term rental located on the Wakefield/Reading line which will allow us to have a place for our practices.
2. Will there be live wrestling?: My response to this is and will continue to be that we will follow state guidelines. The latest EEEA guidance was released on November 6th and allows non-competitive live wrestling under “Modified Level 2 Cohort Play”.
3. What will practice look like?: No matter what, practice group sizes will now need to be smaller. Since this is indoor, we will not be allowed to have more than groups of 10 at practice.. That being said, we will offer 2 types of sessions. A no contact session and a session in compliance with the EEEA modified cohort play. The plan would be to have groups that only practice within their own groups.
4. Should my child wrestle?: This will be up to you. As I said on the call, it is a decision for parents to make. Even before Covid, there was/is an inherent risk with any sport. You will need to decide independently if your child should participate. We will make every parent or guardian sign a health waiver prior to practicing.
5. What precautions are we taking?: We will be checking temperatures prior to entry for practices and will have full contact tracing protocols in place. We will be taking extra precautions with the maintenance and cleaning of the wrestling room and mats, prior to every session.
6. When will the season start?: The goal is to start the week of November 30th
7. When will practices be?: This is dependent on you getting back to us with your commitment to first, the season and second, the type of practice you want to have. Once we have this information we can set a schedule. Depending on numbers we may be running 1 or 2 practices every night of the week for different groups.
8. What happens if there is a State health lock down?: We will follow state guidelines should this happen. As was mentioned on the call, the club is taking significant financial risk to rent a room this season. Should the season be cancelled for any reason we will not be able to offer refunds.
*******WHAT WE NEED FROM YOU:
Even though you may have filled out a similar form for the waiting list, we will ask that you go to https://www.redrootswrestlingclub.org/registration.html and fully register for the season. This mean you must commit to a practice session type. The two types are a contact free session and the modified cohort play session. Once we have that information we will be able to divide the registrants up and set a schedule. Our Goal is to Run Monday and Thursday but depending on the number of kids and sessions, Tuesdays and Wednesdays could be added.
This is our current plan and we will provide updates if/when public health or other conditions warrant. Please feel free to reach out to me should you have any questions at [email protected] or 781-608-6225
